Family sponsorship
As a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, you may sponsor your family members to become permanent residents so they can come live, study and work in Canada. This can be your spouse, partner, dependent children (aged 22 and under), adopted child, your relatives, your parents or your grandparents.
You must prove that you are not receiving any social assistance (except for your disability if you have any) and also prove that you can provide for the basic needs of your family. In some cases, you will have to prove that you meet a certain income requirement (please refer to the Low-income Cut-off (LICO)). You can apply for an open work permit if the adult person you are sponsoring is already in Canada.
